Claude CMS vs Carrd — When Simple Isn't Enough

Carrd is great for a single-page site. But the moment you need a second page, a contact form that stores submissions, a payment, or anything custom — you've hit Carrd's ceiling. Claude CMS is what comes next.

Carrd generates static HTML with no server-side runtime. Claude CMS deploys to a PHP/MySQL stack with full filesystem access via MCP — pages, custom PHP endpoints, SQL, Stripe, SMTP. Carrd's entire feature set fits inside a single Claude CMS page.

Carrd vs Claude CMS — side by side

Both tools get you online quickly. The difference is what happens the moment you need more than a single scrollable page.

Carrd is a static site generator. Claude CMS is a full server-side application framework operated through natural language. Same quick entry point; completely different ceiling.

Carrd is built for simplicity — at the cost of everything else

Carrd is genuinely excellent for a single-page "link in bio" or a quick personal profile. But it was designed to stay simple — and that's not a bug, it's the product. The moment your needs grow beyond one scrollable page, you're looking for a Carrd alternative.

Carrd's architecture is fundamentally static HTML with no server runtime. That's a deliberate product decision — it makes Carrd reliable and cheap to operate, but it also makes it structurally impossible to run dynamic features, custom auth, or any server-side logic.

One page is the limit

Carrd sites are, by design, a single page. If you need a services page, an about page, a blog, and a contact page — Carrd can't help. You're limited to sections within a single scroll, not a real multi-page site.

Carrd has no page router. All content exists within a single HTML document. Claude CMS uses a full slug-based router — unlimited pages, each independently addressable, with per-page SEO meta and status control.

No real payments

Carrd has no native payment processing. You can embed a link to an external checkout, but there's no Stripe integration on your site, no order management, no webhook handling. For any e-commerce use case, Carrd is a dead end.

Carrd has no server runtime to create or verify Stripe sessions. Claude CMS generates PHP endpoints that create Checkout Sessions, verify HMAC webhook signatures, and update order state in MySQL — all natively on your server.

No database, no dynamic content

Carrd is static. There's no database, no user accounts, no form submission storage, no dynamic content. If you want to store anything — a lead, an enquiry, a membership — you need a third-party service to do it for you.

No MySQL, no PHP runtime, no server-side logic. Third-party integrations are iFrame or JS embeds only — Airtable, Formspree, Memberstack. Claude CMS handles these natively without external service dependencies.

Claude doesn't just write the code — it deploys it

Other AI tools can generate website code. But they hand you the code and leave you to figure out hosting, deployment, and wiring it all together. Claude CMS gives Claude direct access to your live server — it creates pages, writes files, and deploys changes in real time during the conversation.

Claude CMS exposes production MCP tool endpoints to the Claude API. site_create_page writes directly to the database; file_write deploys PHP to the filesystem with auto-backup. There's no clipboard step — Claude's tool calls are the deployment pipeline.

Multi-page sites from scratch

Tell Claude what you want and it builds a full site — home, about, services, blog, contact. Each page is live immediately, with its own URL, SEO description, and a design consistent with your brand.

site_create_page per page, navigation updated via site_update_navigation, per-page meta_description set at creation. Full slug routing from the first tool call.

Payments, forms, APIs

Need a booking form? A checkout? A newsletter sign-up? Claude builds the feature and the backend — the form handler, the Stripe integration, the email confirmation. All in one conversation, all deployed live.

file_write deploys PHP endpoint files. Raw cURL to Stripe, SMTP, Mailchimp, Royal Mail APIs. No third-party embeds. No Zapier. Pure server-side logic on your own hosting.

Your site, your server

Claude CMS runs on hosting you control. Your files, your database, your domain. Cancel your plan and the site keeps running — you don't lose your work to a platform closure or a pricing change.

Self-hosted on any PHP 7.4+ / MySQL 5.7+ stack. No vendor lock-in at the infrastructure level. Cancel the licence and MCP access stops; the site continues serving requests normally.

Grows with your business

Add new pages, sections, features, and integrations at any time — just by asking Claude. Your site evolves through conversation. No migration, no rebuilding, no platform switch when you outgrow it.

The MCP tool surface is constant regardless of site complexity. Adding a subscription system to an existing site is the same workflow as building the first page — new DB tables, PHP endpoints, and pages through natural language.
